Beginning in 1993 most of the world outside the United States adopted a standard for providing a security shield for credit card processing, including the issuance of cards with embedded chips, developed by Europay, MasterCard and Visa, known as EMV. Up until now the U.S. has maintained use of the credit card with magnetic strip first in use in the 1960s. But now Visa and other card issuers are mandating that merchants accept chip-enabled transactions, beginning October 1.
This seminar, presented by Jim Hilber and Karen Borillo of Direct Connect, will provide an overview of what merchants and others who accept credit card payments can expect before, during and after the October 1 deadline.
